End-of-Course

KS2881In 2007 Senate Bill 1031 was passed, which called for the development of "end-of-course" assessment instruments for the following secondary-level courses:

  • Algebra I & Algebra II
  • Geometry
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • English I, English II, & English III
  • World Geography
  • World History & United States History

Each of the assessments includes test items that cover content from the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum. Prior to implementation, exam items are field tested for two years. Currently, EOC exams are optional. In Spring 2010, the following subjects will be available online for campuses to administer: Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, World Geography, & U.S. History. The rest of the assessments are in various stages of field testing.

Beginning with the freshman class of 2011-2012, performance in the core high school courses will become part of the graduation requirements. In addition, TEA states that a student's score on each EOC assessment will be worth 15% of the student's final grade for that course.

In Mansfield ISD, district administrators are beginning to use results from the online EOC assessments to begin planning for the transition from exit level TAKS assessments to End-of-Course exams.

End-of-Course Summary Reports: Algebra I was administered to students in the middle schools and a sample of students in the high schools were given Algebra I, Algebra II, English I, Geometry, Physics, and U.S. History.
